Motor Trend Offers Early Look at 2024 Volvo XC100
When I spoke to the owner of my local Volvo dealership at the Pennsylvania Auto Show early this year, I was intrigued to learn that Volvo Cars had an XC100 in the works. I imagined it might be an even bigger version of the XC90. But apparently I was mistaken.
On its website today, Motor Trend magazine indicates that the XC100 is expected to be a “swoopy SUV coupe” focused less on hauling gear and more on shuttling passengers around in style. “Expect four seats rather than five, comfort- and luxury-oriented suspension tuning, semiautonomous capabilities, and more extravagant design,” the magazine writes. The photo at the end of this post, from carsuk.net, shows what the vehicle might look like. Based on this early reporting, it seems the XC100 will be smaller than the XC90, more akin in size, perhaps, to the BMW X6.
Equally interesting, it appears the XC100 will be offered only with an electric powertrain, with one motor at the front of the vehicle and a second at the rear.
In the meantime, the third-generation XC90 is due to be redesigned and hit showrooms a year before the XC100, Motor Trend reports.
